In the Latest Issue:

In Issue 13 we have articles on the monitoring of CO2 during EOR and storage projects from the University of Calgary, the possibilities of implementing MEOR in Danish chalk reservoirs from Aalborg University Esbjerg, and developments in downhole gas compression from Corac. From BGS we have an article on the industrial application of research results from the ocean margins LINK programme and from Senergy a summary of the latest news on CO2 EOR and storage in the UK.

The ‘Talking Point’ is kindly contributed by Euan Mearns, editor of ‘The Oil Drum’ website, on the architecture of UK offshore oil production in relation to future production forecasts.  Accurate forecasting is important at a time when the UK is beginning to loose its self sufficiency in oil.  Please provide your thoughts on this by using the feedback box at the end of the article.

We also have news on the latest initiatives from the public sector funding bodies (ITF, NERC, EPSRC) and reports on recent EOR and CO2 conferences.  Under ‘People and Projects’ there is a review of Al Gore’s documentary on climate change ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.

We welcome your views on any of the articles - please submit your feedback using the box provided. For matters not directly related to any individual article use the feedback box at the bottom of this Editorial.

Purpose

OG-MRP IOR Views is funded by DTI Licensing and Consents Unit – Licences, Exploration and Development (LCU-LED) to provide a recognised technical network for information exchange within the UK on reservoir engineering and IOR matters. Its objective is to improve general awareness across many sectors of the oil industry about what is currently being done in the way of research and application in relation to IOR, and how to participate. Specifically it is intended as a focal point for research effort in this sector with the funding bodies (DTI LCU, ITF, NERC, EPSRC) and the Universities and research-orientated SMEs and other service sector companies all participating. Operators (and their partners) are also encouraged to share their IOR and EOR related expertise.

Contributed Articles – Instructions to Authors

The DTI welcomes the submission of material for inclusion in OG-MRP IOR Views. IOR is interpreted very widely and can include any initiative that leads to improved exploration, appraisal, development or recovery of oil and gas. There are no charges for including your article; equally we cannot pay you to produce the article.

Please keep contributions relatively short and make liberal use of hyperlinks to other material on your own website. As a guide, the equivalent of around two A4 pages of text plus 2-4 graphic objects should be sufficient. Please also send an electronic passport-type photo of the author(s).

Please provide the text in a Word document. Any separate graphic objects should be sent as .gif files or other high quality graphic format files. Ideally all the files relating to a single article should be zipped into a single file prior to submission. Contributions should be submitted at any time to david.hughes@senergyltd.com. These will be reviewed and if appropriate published in the next issue.
