I would be extremely grateful for any information on the implementation on the Drym Power Station, IGCC 460 MWe.

Namely, whether its construction has already started, and if not what is the expected date of starting it?

Is the planned date 2007 of its operation realistic?

Is its realization dependent on the question whether the CO2 sequestration system is implemented, or not?

My comment is very positive. Technology of IGCC integrated with CO2 sequestration is great. There are lots of similar projects in the USA, and only one in Europe (Statoil, Norway). I wish you success very much.

Peter,

Thank you for your comments and questions concerning our proposed power station at Drym in Wales. I will reply to them in order:

(1) Has its construction already started, and if not what is the expected date of starting it?

We have applied for Consent to construct the power station: the process is slow and laborious. We expect to receive local Planning Consent by the end of August 2004, then it needs approval from the Government. This can take a long time, but we could have approval by just after Christmas 2004. After that there is about a 1-year period of detailed design and tying up the financial part of the project. Construction might be expected to start around Easter of 2006.

(2) Is the planned date 2007 of its operation realistic?

We had hoped to start generating in 2007: the CCGT will be able to start generating using natural gas about 27 months into the programme, so, following on from the programme I gave above, we now could expect for it to start generating in the summer of 2008, and operating on Syngas for the winter of 2008/2009.

(3) Is its realization dependent on the question whether the CO2 sequestration system is implemented, or not?

The design is CO2-capture ready, in other words, we are making a relatively small investment at an early stage so that once legal and fiscal changes are made which make CO2 removal and storage possible, the plant can be modified relatively easily to produce "CO2-free" electricity.

(4) My comment is very positive. Technology of IGCC integrated with CO2 sequestration is great. There are lots of similar projects in the USA, and only one in Europe (Statoil, Norway). I wish you success very much.

Thank you for your kind words and wishes for success. When it is built and operating, I hope you will visit the plant!

Kind regards,

Andy,

Your information is valuable for the handbook I am just working on.

Yes, I would be very glad to see the first true IGCC plant with CO2 sequestration in Europe personally, once it's up and running.

Wishing you successful project,
