The Newsletter is compiled by David Hughes, Senergy Ltd. on behalf of the DTI, Oil and Gas Directorate (david.hughes@senergyltd.com)

Welcome to the first edition of the SHARP IOR Newsletter. I hope you find it interesting, and if you haven't contributed to this edition, I hope you are enthused to submit contributions to future editions. Your views on the contents and what you would like to see in future editions are also welcome. Please send all contributions and comments to iornewsletter@senergyltd.com.

Two themes emerge from the contributions supplied on this occasion. These are streamline simulation and three phase relperms, again your views on these issues and their importance to reservoir management and IOR would be appreciated. Particularly how the use of streamline simulation (as opposed to finite difference simulation) has affect decision making and the outcome.

Clearly, in terms of field applications, gas injection both hydrocarbon gas and air are the EOR processes that have a high profile in relation to the UKCS at present. A special thanks to BP for their contributions - contributions from other operators would be appreciated for future editions!

I am hoping that the "Talking Point" section will become a regular feature with individuals invited to express their personal views, again unsolicited contributions are welcome. For this edition, we are indebted to Prof Anton Ziolkowski for taking the time to write down his thoughts and strike a controversial note on the current status of sub-basalt and inter-well seismic imaging.

The next edition of the IOR Newsletter is due to be published in May 2002. Contributions can be submitted to iornewsletter@senergyltd.com by 15 April 2002.

The newsletter is distributed via an email notification with hyperlinks to the newsletter itself. In principle, we would like to send the email to a single contact within each organisation for onward distribution within that organisation. I am encouraging each organisation to set up an email address of the form (for example) iordistribution@xyz.co.uk which is itself a mailing list of those wishing to receive the email notification which is maintained by your organisation. Please let me know if you set up such an email address and emails notifying future issues will be sent to your distribution email address.
