Workshop on Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery, organised by DTI Oil and Gas Directorate, 27 February 2002, Patio Hotel, Aberdeen

- Organised on behalf of the DTI by Senergy Ltd. Please contact Tissa Jayasekera, DTI (Tissa.Jayasekera@dti.gsi.gov.uk) if you are interested in receiving an invitation. Cost per delegate is £100 +VAT.

Purpose - There is a renewed interest in the industry in microbial improved and enhanced oil recovery. Statoil announced on the 8 February 2001 that following successful trials, they are applying microbial technology field-wide in Norne. Some UK operators have considered the possible application of microbial flow diversion techniques being promoted in the UK and US which vendors claim are particularly suited to increasing recovery in mature water-flooded fields.

However, trials of microbial techniques in UKCS fields in the early 1990s produced ambiguous results, and operators were not sufficiently encouraged to take it any further.

The DTI is concerned that microbial EOR technology should be considered afresh for the UKCS, given the recent success elsewhere.
