Issue 12, August 2006

OG-MRP IOR Views is edited on behalf of ERDU-LED at DTI by David Hughes (david.hughes@senergyltd.com) and Irfan Sami (irfan.sami@senergyltd.com) of Senergy Ltd in Aberdeen.

Welcome to Issue 12 of OG-MRP IOR Views, our first issue of 2006.

Thank you to the individual authors who have contributed articles.  We are always looking for new articles - the next issue is scheduled for late 2006/early 2007.  If you have or are able to write an article that you think will be of interest to IOR Views readers please let us know (david.hughes@senergyltd.com or irfan.sami@senergyltd.com).  Instructions for authors can be found on the IOR Views home page.

New in This Issue

In this issue we have articles on low salinity water flooding from BP, past experience and future challenges of CO2 injection from Shell, and on extended well tests and stratigraphic traps from DTI.  From the universities we have articles on uncertainty quantification from Heriot-Watt and THAI heavy oil technology as it might be applied in the North Sea from Bath.  Other articles are on North Sea CO2 injection from RPS Energy (formerly ECL) and carbon capture and storage (CCS) from Senergy.

The “Talking Point” article written by David Hughes of Senergy (and editor of IOR Views) continues the theme of carbon capture and storage.  In the light of the Energy Review he asks how the implementation of CCS should be incentivised.  Please provide your thoughts on this by using the feedback box at the end of the article.

There are also reports on the DTI’s improved oil recovery research dissemination seminar which was held as an integral part of DEVEX 2006 and on the “Heavy Oil” related presentations at DEVEX 2006.

We welcome your views on any of the articles - please submit your feedback using the box provided. For matters not directly related to any individual article use the feedback box at the bottom of this Editorial.

Statistics Relating to Issue 11

Because of a recent server upgrade we don’t have any statistics relating to the readership of the IOR Views site since the publication of the last issue back in November 2005.  Nevertheless, the site continues to receive a significant number of hits and feedback submitted through the feedback boxes at the end of each article.

Acknowledgements

As was reported in the last issue Tissa has now retired from the DTI.  He is sharing his time between London and Sri Lanka and intends to remain involved with oil and gas on a part time basis.

We would like to thank Peter Haile and John Fraser at DTI for their help in compiling this issue of IOR Views.  Thanks also to Chris McLeod in the IT department at Senergy for his efforts constructing the webpages.
