The Newsletter is compiled by David Hughes, Senergy Ltd. on behalf of the DTI, Oil and Gas Directorate (david.hughes@senergyltd.com) Welcome to the third edition of the SHARP IOR eNewsletter. As with the first issue, we are, again, pleased with the response that we have had to the second issue. From the day it went live (31 May 2002) until 27 September 2002 the newsletter has received just under 26,000 hits (a hit is defined as a single action on the web server). The number of visits (times that a user has accessed the site) over the same period was over 3500 with a reasonable level of activity over the whole period - see below for the daily trend. In all, nearly 1700 individuals have viewed the newsletter during this period. Of course both the first and second issues were available for viewing and these statistics cover both issues. The top four most popular features from the second issue (all with well over 100 visits each) were Brent Field Depressurisation by Rob Kuyper of Shell U.K. Exploration and Production, Remaining Potential and Opportunities on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) and the Need for New Entrants by Jim Munns of the DTI, IOR related projects and facilities at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, by Prof. Brian Smart of the Heriot-Watt Institute of Petroleum Engineering and Development of Small UKCS Gas–Condensate Reservoirs by Maggie Thompson of AEA Technology. One slight disappointment is that no feedback was received (in terms of emails to the editor) on any of the posted items (Prof Anton Ziolkowski's submission Britain's Oil and Gas: What We Stand To Lose to the points made by Tissa in the Introduction [second issue] excepted). The DTI would like to see more comment and discussion on the content of this issue and also would like to encourage readers to submit articles for inclusion in future issues. Frank contributions from oil companies on any issues they see might be inhibiting the implementation of improved oil recovery on the UKCS would be particularly welcome. Please send any feedback on this issue, or articles for future editions to iornewsletter@senergyltd.com. You will note that we have upped the picture content in this issue with photo reports from the DTI IOR Research Dissemination Seminar held in Aberdeen in June 2002 and from the IEA EOR Collaborative Agreement, Annual Workshop and Symposium held in Caracas, Venezuela, in September 2002. I hope you find this entertaining - we plan more of the same in the future. It was a departure to hold the DTI IOR Research Dissemination Seminar in Aberdeen this year, the objective being, by coming to the heart of the UK industry, to encourage much greater attendance from oil company delegates - this worked in part, but the DTI would like to encourage even greater oil company participation in 2003. We would particularly welcome your views on the future venue and format for this seminar (email to iornewsletter@senergyltd.com). The main topic in this issue is CO2 EOR and sequestration with a number of items included in a special section of the newsletter. We also have articles on two numerical reservoir simulators which have advanced capabilities to model enhanced oil recovery processes (including CO2 injection) - SURE from HOT/Veritas and GEM from CMG. The production of this newsletter like most other projects is a team effort. Special thanks to Tissa at the DTI for the effort he has put in writing and soliciting contributions, and also to Chris McLeod (RML) who constructed the web pages and Grant Cooper (RML) who analysed the website statistics. If you would like to submit an article or other contribution for inclusion in the next issue of the newsletter, please provide the text in a Word document. However, please do not embed any graphic objects in the Word document. Please send these as separate .jpg or another high quality graphic format files. Keeping the graphics files separate provides us with better originals than we are able to extract from .doc files. Ideally the .doc file and the graphics files should be zipped up into a single file prior to submission. Please keep contributions relatively short and make liberal use of hyperlinks to other material on your own website. The next edition of the SHARP IOR eNewsletter is due to be published in January 2003. Contributions should be submitted to iornewsletter@senergyltd.com by 15 December 2002. The newsletter is distributed via an email notification with hyperlinks
to the newsletter itself. We would like to send the email to a single
contact within each organisation for onward distribution within that organisation.
Please would you liaise with others in your organisation, and set up an
email address of the form (for example) iordistribution@xyz.co.uk which
is itself a mailing list of those wishing to receive the email notification,
which is maintained by your organisation. Please let me know when you
have set up such an email address and emails notifying future issues will
be sent to your distribution email address. |
