IEA EOR Collaborative Agreement – 23rd Annual Workshop and Symposium Caracas, Venezuela 8-11 September 2002

This seminar was held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 25th June this year. This was a change from past practice, which had been to hold it at the DTI Conference Centre in London. This turned out to be an appropriate move as it was going right to the centre of the UK oil industry.

There was also a change in the format of the programme in that the morning sessions were devoted to the Joint Industry Projects that are sponsored by the DTI's SHARP programme, and the afternoon session to new themes. This time the 'new themes' were 'the need to take a holistic view of IOR projects' and 'CO2 injection for IOR'. The afternoon presentations were mainly from the oil industry and commercial research organisations. The programme of this year's seminar and a picture spread from it are at the bottom of this note. A short description of the session on 'CO2 for IOR' and contributed articles on some of the presentations made is included elsewhere in this issue (CO2 Sequestration and the Use of CO2 to Improve Oil Recovery), as this turned out to be of great interest to many attendees.

The new format turned out to be very successful and the event was well-received by the IOR community. We are open to any suggestions for improving this event even further next year (email to tissa.jayasekera@dti.gsi.gov.uk).
