Duke of York visits DTI at PETEX 2002

PETEX is a biennial conference and exhibition run by PETEX Ltd., a wholly owned trading subsidiary of the PESGB (http://www.pesgb.org.uk).  PETEX 2002 took place at Olympia, South Kensington during 10-12 December.

The DTI Promote UKCS stand at PETEX 2002 was visited by the Duke of York who was there to launch the event.  Prince Andrew showed great interest in the activities of the DTI and its work in promoting the UK abroad particularly as he himself has an ambassadorial role promoting UK business abroad.  He displayed an interest in the key issues facing oil and gas companies in the UK as he had visited several service providers in his tour prior to arriving at the DTI stand.  Jim Munns and Peter Haile fielded a number of challenging questions and Prince Andrew also demonstrated he had a sense of humour when we responded to a difficult question in the style of Sir Humphrey!  Prince Andrew was interested in the Buzzard discovery and asked the likelihood of finding more.  The response…"like all birds of prey they are relatively scarce and difficult to find but unlikely to be extinct".

The exhibition and conference was then opened by Prince Andrew.  It was deemed a great success with a record number of attendees and much lively debate at the technical sessions.
