ITF Jointly Develops UK Oil Research Information Website |
|
![]() Sheila Batchelor |
The UK Oil Minister has launched an oil information database ( www.ukoilresearch.info ) jointly developed by ITF (Industry Technology Facilitator) and the DTI. Sheila Batchelor ( s.batchelor@oil-itf.com ) of ITF discusses its objectives. ITF is owned and supported by sixteen oil and gas operating and service companies and has established itself as one of the key routes through which they focus their technology development funding. Since its inception in 1999, ITF has launched over 60 joint industry projects (JIPs) with a value of more than £16 million. In addition to JIP development, ITF is now engaged in other technology development activities. High risk, early stage feasibility studies have been funded through the Pioneer Programme and attention is focussing on field application of new technology. At the 2003 Offshore Europe exhibition and conference, UK energy minister Stephen Timms launched www.ukoilresearch.info a database that aims to promote the UK 's research expertise to the oil and gas industry at home and abroad. Example of www.ukoilresearch.info webpages ITF jointly developed the website with DTI. The database reflects the extensive network of contacts that ITF has built up amongst the technology provider community since its launch in 1999, and fits well with the DTI's broader objective of maximising the usage of the UK 's science and technology base and ongoing aim to raise the rate of innovation within the oil and gas industry. www.ukoilresearch.info is an open-access, online database that includes details of research expertise and facilities (such as flow loops, core analysis rigs or materials testing equipment) that are available to the industry either as part of a research project or on a consultancy basis. Details are held for over 250 universities and research and technology organisations from a wide range of disciplines. Visitors to the website can search by keyword for expertise and facilities to meet their particular needs, and researchers can submit updated information on-line. For more information about the database contact Sheila Batchelor of ITF (s.batchelor@oil-itf.com ). |
