Introduction
Tissa Jayasekera OBE (tissa.jayasekera@dti.gsi.gov.uk) is Manager of the DTI's LCU-LED O&G-MHR programme.
Welcome to the November 2004 issue of IOR Views - No. 9 since inception. I hope you find it interesting.
There has been another name change to note - DTI's Sustainable Hydrocarbon Additional Recovery Programme (SHARP) has been renamed to Oil & Gas - Maximising Recovery Programme (OG-MRP). This should be fully implemented in the next month or so.
David Hughes, in his editorial gives a breakdown of the articles received by source, over the previous eight issues, and it is interesting that SMEs are topping the list. In general it has been a struggle to coax articles out. It has been mostly through David's efforts in keeping in touch with the current activities in the IOR community and lots of persuasive talk, that we have been able to get a good crop of high quality articles into every issue.
This issue too contains many interesting articles that should stimulate discussion - so please feel free to use the feedback box at the bottom of each article. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with EOR seems to be a topic of continuing interest. I strongly recommend reading the article by Dr. Jon Gibbins - EOR on the UK Continental Shelf: Part of a Bigger Picture. Then there is the article by Dr. Eugene Balbinski - Issues Relating to Optimising WAG Ratio in CO2 Flooding, and the Report on DTI Workshop Addressing Issues Associated with Converting Wells and Facilities for use with CO2 Injection. David Hughes in his "Talking Point" article, EOR in the High Oil Price Environment also covers CCS/EOR.
I would also like to direct your attention to the article by Dr. John Satherley on Effective Reservoir Fluid Characterisation. This proposal received strong support from our advisory committee ACHARR and DTI would like to see it successfully launched. If anyone is interested in participating please contact Dr Satherley direct, or use the feedback box with comments or queries. The 2005 call for ACHARR proposals will be posted on the OG-MRP website in January 2005.
Lastly, getting onto the DTI IOR Seminar, in the Report of DTI Seminar on Maximising Hydrocarbon Recovery from the UKCS 2004, David Hughes summarises the key points from the event held in June 2004. In 2005 we plan to combine our IOR Seminar with DEVEX, thus making it a joint DTI, SPE, PESGB and AFES event. It will be held on 18-19 May 2005 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. There is flyer out already calling for abstracts for papers (http://www.dti-sharp.co.uk/dissemination/workshops/DEVEX2005.pdf). More details will follow in due course. Meanwhile, please keep these dates free, and I hope most of you will be able to attend.
